A proton pump inhibitor (PPI), Prevacid is used to reduce the amount of acid produce in the stomach, preventing stomach and/or intestinal ulcers, erosive oesophagitis and other conditions, such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. It works by stopping the enzyme in the wall of the stomach from producing too much acid and thereby allows these conditions to heal. Prevacid is similar in its qualities to Aciphex (raberprazole), Prilosec (omeprazole), Protonix (pantoprazole) and Nexium (esomeprazole).
It is recommended that Prevacid is taken orally, once a day, prior to a meal and as directed by your doctor or health practitioner. Please note that Prevacid is supplied as an extended-release capsule, i.e. it acts over an extended period of time, and should be swallowed whole.
If you are not able to swallow the capsule whole, the capsule can be opened, the contents sprinkled on apple sauce and then swallowed immediately. Do not chew or crush the capsule or its contents. Always complete the prescribed course for the maximum benefit. If you miss a dose of Prevacid, take it as soon as you remember, unless this is close to your next scheduled dose. If it is, miss that dose and then return to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once.

The product must be kept out of the reach of children and pets at all times.
